The Land Cruiser nameplate is back after a three-year hiatus. While most of us thought that the Land Cruiser was gone forever, Toyota reintroduced it for the 2024 model year. The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser shares its platform with the recently redesigned 2024 Lexus GX SUV and wears a new boxy look.
Unlike the Lexus GX, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser uses a turbocharged hybrid 4-cylinder engine with 326 horsepower. It also shrinks down in size, unlike its mammoth-sized predecessor. The new dimensions make it a more capable off-road SUV and a great competitor to SUVs like the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler.
10. Impressive Towing Capacity
The Land Cruiser lineup has always had impressive towing capacity. The 2021 variant had an impressive towing capacity of 8,100 pounds. The 2024 Land Cruiser doesn’t match this since its towing capacity maxes out at 6,000 pounds.
While this is lower than the predecessor, it’s better than most of its competitors, like the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler, which boast a maximum towing capacity of 3,500 pounds. The impressive towing capacity of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser speaks to its enhanced abilities with the TNGA-F platform and a smaller hybrid powertrain.
9. Improved Fuel Efficiency
The previous Land Cruiser variant, the 200 Series, was a mammoth-sized SUV that had mediocre fuel economy. Its 5.7-liter V8 engine achieved a meager mileage of just 17 mph on the highway and 13 mpg in the city.
While Toyota is yet to disclose the fuel economy estimates for the 2024 Land Cruiser, it’s a guarantee that it will be better than its predecessor. With models like the more powerful Sequoia achieving mileage estimated at 24 mpg on the highway, 21 mpg in the city, and 22 mph combined, the Land Cruiser will definitely outshine its competition.

8. Refined And Rugged Exterior
The Land Cruiser is Toyota’s longest-running nameplate and an off-road icon. For the 2024 model year, Toyota reintroduces the next-generation Land Cruiser after a three-year hiatus. The new Land Cruiser returns to its rugged origins with a redesigned exterior.
It uses Toyota’s off-road capable TNGA-F platform, giving it unbreakable strength. Like its late ’50s predecessors, the Land Cruiser gets a boxy look with short overhands, flat food, and a Toyota-branded grille. The base variant, the 1958 trim, gets the iconic round LED headlights, while the higher trims get slim, rectangular headlights like the FJ62.
7. New Toyota Limited Warranty
As standard, Toyota offers an impressive 36-month or 36,000 new vehicle warranties. This applies to all components other than normal wear and maintenance items. Toyota also offers an additional 60-month or 60,000 miles warranty for the powertrain.
The warranty covers the powertrain against perforation from corrosion. All the hybrid-related components also get an 8-year or 100,000 miles warranty, allowing owners to get repairs needed to correct defects in materials or workmanship. As for the battery, Toyota offers a 10-year or 150,000-mile warranty that’s transferrable across ownership.
Warranty And Maintenance Coverage
- Limited warranty for 36 months or 36,000 miles
- Powertrain warranty for 60 months or 60,000 miles
- Hybrid components warranty for eight years or 100,000 miles
- Hybrid battery warranty for ten years or 150,000 miles (transferrable across ownership)
- Complimentary maintenance for two years or 25,000 miles
6. Standard Toyota Safety Sense 3.0
All 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser models come standard with Toyota Safety Sense 3.0. This is Toyota’s suite of active safety and convenience systems like proactive driving assist, automatic high beams, road sign assist, lane tracing assist, full speed range dynamic radar cruise control, and much more.
The safety suite uses well-placed sensors for improved detection capability. It also ensures that the driver is alert at all times, helping protect all the passengers. Additional features like blind spot monitoring help give the driver added peace of mind.
5. Comfortable Toyota Land Cruiser Interior
Unlike its predecessor, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is strictly a two-row, five-passenger SUV. While this might seem like a downsize for the Land Cruiser nameplate, it helps make it nimbler in challenging terrains.
It also helps make the 2024 Land Cruiser more appealing than competitors like the 2023 Ford Bronco and 2023 Jeep Wrangler. While the base trim lacks most of the niceties, it still gets some creature comforts like a heated steering wheel, heated seats, and a 6-speaker stereo.
4. Multiple 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Trim Options
For the 2024 model year, Toyota will only offer three trim options, the Land Cruiser 1958, Land Cruiser, and Land Cruiser First Edition. Luckily, no matter the trim option, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser won’t have the steep starting price of its predecessor.
According to Toyota, the 2024 Land Cruiser will have a more attractive starting price in the mid $50,000 range. Despite having different trim levels, all variants get the same i-FORCE MAX powertrain with full-time four-wheel drive and a two-speed transfer case.
3. Revised Toyota Infotainment System
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser lineup gets the brand’s excellent infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. While the base variant gets a dinky 8.0-inch infotainment display, the other trims boast a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen display.
Toyota adds a great selection of features, including a wireless smartphone charging pad and USB-C charging ports as standard. Among the optional extras include the 14-speaker JBL stereo system and onboard Wi-Fi.
Standard Features
- Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
- 8.0-inch infotainment display in the base variant
- 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen display in the top trims
- Wireless smartphone charging pad
- USB-C charging ports.

2. Toyota Off-Road Capable TNGA-F Platform
The off-road capable Toyota TNGA-F platform allows the 2024 Land Cruiser to comfortably survive the harshest environments. The platform works well with the revised i-FORCE MAX powertrain, easily accommodating the smaller engine and making the 2024 Land Cruiser nimbler on the trails.
This new ladder frame also makes the 2024 Land Cruiser more rigid than its predecessor, thanks to the use of laser welds and high-strength steel. Besides getting a smaller engine, the 2024 Land Cruiser also has smaller dimensions, making it more off-road capable than the 200 Series.
1. Revised Hybrid Performance Powertrain
For the 2024 model year, the Land Cruiser ditches the predecessor’s 5.7-liter V8 engine in favor of a smaller, modern hybrid powertrain. All 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser models use the i-FORCE MAX powertrain that includes a turbocharged 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and two electric motors.
This revised hybrid powertrain produces an impressive 326 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque. While that’s lesser than the predecessor’s performance, Toyota boasts better efficiency, allowing the 2024 Land Cruiser to be the go-to version for most buyers.
